This project will seek to create a map displaying the energy consumption, and resulting CO2 emissions, for residential, commercial and industrial structures in San Antonio. Displaying CO2 emissions will allow a baseline to be established for emissions stemming from electricity use. This baseline will provide individuals and communities with a tool to gauge their own CO2 emissions.
This project will use data from CPS Energy to display energy consumption averages on a street-by-street basis. This will allow small communities to view their CO2 emissions in comparison to other communities in San Antonio. Ultimately, the goal of this project is to provide a tool communities can use to initiate their own emission reduction. Furthermore, data regarding construction dates or land development will be included to measure the emissions difference between structures of various ages. More relevant data may be added as the project progresses.
Aside from CO2 emissions, this mapping project will also provide individuals with rough estimates of their electricity usage in comparison to similar structures. Along with construction date data, this project can be used to gauge the overall energy efficiency of structures in San Antonio.
